Dear Mama

The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother.
St. Therese of Lisieux

You are the first person I ever met. You will forever be my first best friend. You were probably the first person I ever loved as well, and that is because you loved me first. I am so blessed to have you by my side throughout my life. You inspired my love of reality television, animals, home decor, and Jesus. You dressed me for school and taught me about fashion. You painted my nails, brushed my hair, and played Barbies with me. You brought me to dance, brought me to school, and all the way you have brought me to become the young woman that I am today.

From the beginning, you instilled important values into me. You taught me to be kind to everyone. Then, when my feelings got hurt, you taught me that not everyone has the same heart as me. You wiped my tears and showed me how to get right back up when life knocks you down. You have been my biggest supporter and I am so thankful for your never ending support and encouragement in any venture I chose to take part in over the years. You have allowed me to be independent and make my own choices with your guidance and you have never let me go astray.

I am lucky to have you as a mother. You are strong, hard-working, kind, smart, and beautiful inside and out. You have taught me to always be generous, headstrong, creative, and to always be my true, authentic self. Days with you are days of endless fun and laughter. You make any situation brighter just by being yourself. You have taught me how to be a friend, just by being a friend to me. I will forever cherish eating onion rings from Sonic with you before dance, watching Big Brother religiously, and the week one summer in which you and I rented and watched all the Harry Potter movies back to back. Thank you for always listening to me when I have so much on my mind. Thank you for calming me down when I get overwhelmed. Thank you for being my own personal cheerleader when I am in desperate need of some encouragement.

Mama – “You are the finest, loveliest, tenderest, and most beautiful person I have ever known – and even that is an understatement.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald

I love you so so so much, Mama. I love who I am today, and I am who I am because of you.

You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13

For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Ruth 1:16-17

Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her. Proverbs 31:2

New Years Resolutions for 2017

Haha… I have literally never made a new years resolution unless you count the one my third grade teacher made me make – it was to “be nicer to people”. Anyway, I’ve been wanting to have one, I just never could think of anything… so I decided to make a list of a few resolutions that aren’t very demanding and that way, I have a better chance of making at least one of them come true… lol.

  1. Pray every night before bed. I think I’ll be pretty good with this one because I’ve successfully done this for like the past two months. So hopefully, if I can’t do the others on this list, at least I will have this one?
  2. Journal everyday. I definitely need to get better at this. Like way better. When I reread my journals, I see like five consistent days and then like a two month gap…no really… I wish I was exaggerating.
  3. Brush my hair more. Oh man… my hairbrush and I have a rocky relationship. It’s been this way for as long as I can remember… when I was younger, I swear I would have rather had hair like a feral child than let my mom brush my hair. Sometimes, I still think that way, but most of the time I just want to shave my head and wear wigs. So in short, I need to brush my hair more.
  4. Do not lose my current sunglasses. I’m so terrible at losing sunglasses and I used to always get my sunglasses at Forever 21 (They’re only $5.90… I know this because I’ve re-bought so many pairs after losing them) but for Christmas, I got my first pair of sunglasses that cost more than $15. (These are them, if you wanna get a pair.) So basically, I don’t wanna lose these and I can’t because if I do, my mom will probably kill me.
  5. Finally get a tattoo. I’ve been wanting the same tattoo for so long right now and I told myself that I would get the tattoo on my 18th birthday and now it’s been more than four months and I still don’t have it. Sigh.
  6. I would say that I want to read more books, but by now, I feel like I should tell y’all that the only books I thoroughly enjoy are… wait for it… Diary of a Wimpy Kid… I know… I know…
  7. Drink more water. I mean, I guess this is pretty self-explanatory.
  8. Do a whole lot more studying. Oh man… I have never been particularly good at studying. In high school, I would leave my backpack in my car when I got home and probably studied a handful of times and I did pretty well in school. As a result of this, I never learned how to properly study and in college, I’m trying my best to kick those old study habits. It’s hard… like really hard.
  9. Let go & let God. This could be a whole blog post in itself, but in short, I’m a control freak and I need to get better at giving my problems to God because beautiful things happen when you hand your worries to God.

So… I guess that’s it. I will definitely revisit this list in a year and see how many of these I can even accomplish. Comment some of your 2017 resolutions below, I’d love to hear them! Cheers to a great year! Happy new year, guys!

My Current Skincare Routine

I finally started caring about skincare right around my eighteenth birthday. (I’m finally an adult!) After a few months of trial and error, I finally found a routine that I like.

Side note: Before I get started I want to let you know that I have sensitive, very dry, & acne prone skin that scars easy too. Also note that all of the products I use are super affordable and work fabulously – promise.

  1. I always wash my face at night, so I first start out with a makeup wipe. I use this kind – its the Walmart brand but its cheap, comes in a bigger pack, and they do the job. PRICE: $3.48Image result for walmart makeup wipes
  2. My next step is cleanser. I use this one because it gets any remaining makeup off super easy and quick. A little goes a long way with this stuff and it has cleaned my pores so nicely!                                                                                                                                          PRICE: $5.99

  3. Step three is my second cleanser – lol I know, right? But I do love this stuff, it clears all my break outs and it smells good too!                                                                                         PRICE: $6.29Image result for grapefruit acne cleanser
  4. Next, I use this AMAZING toner from L’Oréal. This stuff works wonders by softening, brightening, cleaning, and gently exfoliating. I use a cotton pad and dab on a bit of this product once and its plenty! Not to mention, its alcohol-free which means it won’t and does not dry out my skin!                                                                                            PRICE: $5.49
  5. I usually let my toner sink into my skin for a few minutes, so at this point I check my Twitter or Instagram and then move onto the next step: My favorite – Exfoliating. As I mentioned before, I have very dry skin and exfoliating really get all of the flaky, dead skin off and leaves my skin feeling extra smooth. Also note that a little goes a looong way with this stuff!                                                                                                      PRICE: $8.51Image result for clearasil ultra rapid action scrub
  6. In, my opinion, this next product is the most effective and I only use it every other night. I use generous amounts of this mask and leave it on for the full twenty minutes. (Sometimes longer because I get too comfortable in my chair…haha)               PRICE: $8.73Image result for Clearasil Ultra Acne + Marks Acne Treatment Face Wash and Mask
  7. Finally we have reached the end! My final step is washing of this mask and moisturizing! I bought this jar of moisturizer more than a year ago and I have barely made a dent and I use it twice a day! This stuff works wonders for dry skin!                       PRICE: $10.66Image result for cetaphil moisturizing creamAnd thats all, folks! I swear by this routine. After having troubled skin for quite some time and being a lover of lots and lots of makeup, this routine is awesome and super affordable! If you try some of these products out, I’d love to know about it so tweet me or DM me and let me know how you like them!

40 Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me

  1. Wash your face! This may sound so obvious but I didn’t really start taking care of my skin until the summer after I graduated high school and I regret not starting a better routine sooner.
  2. Pray about everything, and don’t forget to thank God for answering your prayers!! This is very important & a very BIG deal.
  3. Also that just because you pray for something, no matter how good it sounds to you at the moment, God decides in the end whether that is something that you need right now. God knows what we need in our life far better than we ever could.
  4. Don’t be a makeup snob and only use high-end products. There are fabulous drug store products at a fraction of the price.
  5. Don’t splurge and spend all of your graduation money on stupid stuff!!!!! Please for the love of GOD!!!!!
  6. If someone wants to be in your life, you will know. If you find yourself questioning what you mean to someone, stop immediately. You are worth more than that.
  7. Don’t talk to boys who only text you late at night.
  8. Don’t kill yourself for a grade. Once you’re out of high school, no one cares what your graduating rank or GPA was.
  9. Pick a major that makes you happy! Please don’t make a big life decision based on only salary – even though that definitely helps.
  10. Please know that you are important, smart, and beautiful and do not depend on a boy to tell you those things before you begin to believe them.
  11. Write more. Keep a journal. Write when you’re sad, write when you’re happy, write when you’re excited or mad. It’s more fun than you know to reread old journal entries.
  12. If you think someone looks nice, tell them. Make this a habit.
  13. Actually, if you have any positive thought, say it out loud. “I like those shoes!” or “You smell so good!” will make someone happy in two seconds. Just tell them.
  14. Say thank you for even the tiniest of things.
  15. Clothes are clothes and no one really cares or can even tell if you spent $50 or $5 on a shirt.
  16. Let go & let God. He knows exactly where He’s taking you and will get you there right on time.
  17. Study more. But if I’m being honest, cramming works just as well as studying a little each day, for me at least.
  18. You don’t have to go to church to be a good Christian. Go because you enjoy it.
  19. A broken heart is nothing that a little prayer can’t fix.
  20. Don’t drop your friends for a boy. You will need those friends when he starts acting like an idiot.
  21. If your boyfriend doesn’t like your friends, please don’t keep him around.
  22. Don’t stay friends with someone just because you see them everyday.
  23. Talk to God often. When you’re alone is the perfect time to just stop everything and talk to Him. He loves to hear from His children.
  24. Spend more time with your grandparents.
  25. Don’t be so hung up on what people think about you. It’s not a big deal, I promise. If you live your life to please others and not yourself, you will be so exhausted.
  26. The majority of people are inherently good. Don’t be so afraid to talk to people.
  27. Pray for the people around you. Even if you don’t think they’re struggling with anything, just do it. Pray for your parents, your siblings, your friends, etc.
  28. Get a good, protective phone case. Sure the thin cases are cute but a cracked screen is definitely not.
  29. Be nice to your teachers. They’re doing their best too.
  30. Sit in the front of classes that you know you’re going to struggle in.
  31. Be mindful of people’s feelings when you speak to them.
  32. The right person will come when you’re ready.
  33. Everyone messes up sometimes. Don’t be so hard on yourself.
  34. Take pictures of everything. Well maybe not everything but a lot of things.
  35. It’s okay to need help sometimes.
  36. You’re not “too cool” for anything.
  37. Don’t be afraid to tell someone what’s bothering you. Also, if someone pisses you off, let them now. Talk about problems. Don’t sweep them under the rug.
  38. Help your mom out around the house. Before she asks you to.
  39. Whatever you’re freaking out about, it’s probably not as big a deal as you think it is.
  40. Be more patient.
40 Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me

A friend loves at all times and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17

I just want to take this time to brag on my best friend. I know that we are cut from the same cloth and that God made both of us knowing we were meant to be the best of friends. I am so thankful and honored to be Grace’s best friend. She is such a blessing to have in my life and I can only pray that everyone is lucky enough to find their Grace. I was given two younger brothers by birth and a sister by choice.

Grace is my person – yes that is a Grey’s Anatomy reference. We like the same things, do the same things, think the same things, and even say the same things. I love her so much and I thank God for bringing her into my life. I have never had someone who just I get along so well with and it is such a nice thing to have. We just get each other.

We bake a cake and eat half of it for breakfast. We walk around the mall and shop but never buy anything because we hate to spend our money. We watch scary movies late at night and ask each other to go into the bathroom with us because we’re too scared to go alone. We call each other in between classes at college because we miss each other.

Grace is a phenomenal person. Every time we hang out (which is really like every day) we spend the entire time laughing at anything. She can make me laugh no matter how down I’m feeling, and always knows the right thing to say when I’m upset or stressed. I trust Grace with my life and I know she will not ever break that. I honestly could never think up a better friend for me than her. Grace is such a great friend to me, I can only pray that I am as good a friend to her.

& to Grace, I love you.

Let Us Rejoice in the Name of the Lord!

The acts of God are heavy on my heart while I’m writing this, as they have been all morning. When you can see God’s work in everyday life, and recognize it as that, how can we not be grateful for it? God has given us this life and so many blessings upon that and when I really just stop and think about it, my heart overflows with thanksgiving.

It makes my heart so happy to see generosity in people and knowing that that their generosity is a blessing to them from God, and for someone to share their blessing with all of us, that should be proof that God is here with us. It is so beautiful that people devote their lives to helping and tending to those less fortunate than them. You don’t have to be rich or powerful to help those in need, all you need is a kind heart that the Lord has blessed you with. When we see these things, these random acts of kindness, we really should remember to make note of them because this world is often characterized as a Godless place, but when I see, so obviously, the work of God on display just casually on my way to school, I know that our God is still with us, and He always will be. Our God is and AWESOME God, and I will continue to cherish Him until the day that I die. So let us rejoice in the name of the Lord, for He is almighty and He loves and cares for us, and let us love like Him and live our lives mimicking Jesus as closely as we can.

Let Us Rejoice in the Name of the Lord!

A Letter to My Future Husband

Dear Future Husband,

I have no earthly idea who you are. Maybe I know you already or maybe I’ll meet you soon, but I want you to know that I am so in love with you already. I am already in love with you because I know that God made you especially for me to love and me for you. Among many things, I also want you to know that I pray for you everyday. Firstly, I pray that we find each other soon because I want as much time with you as possible (even though I know you will come in God’s perfect timing). Secondly, I pray that you are enjoying your life as I am enjoying mine. I pray that you know and always make time for the Lord and also that you trust in Him with every ounce of your body. I pray that you do, and always will, love God more than anything else. I pray that together, we will always continue to build our relationship with the Lord. I pray that I will find my soulmate in you and you in me. I pray that you love me forever and without conditions, because that is exactly how I will love you. I pray that you want to be father as much as I so badly want to be a mother. I pray that we will teach our children about God’s unconditional love, and be an example of a healthy relationship for our children to always look up to. Above all, I pray that you are well and happy. God knows how excited I am to meet you and how much I look forward to loving you for the rest of my life.
